Chicken cafreal is a traditional Goan dish that includes elements of Indian and Portuguese cuisine. This version of the classic recipe marinates chicken in lots of fresh spices before it is shallow fried in. Cafreal is a spicy chicken preparation consumed widely in the Indian state of Goa. The preparation originated from the Portuguese colonies in the African continent.
Instructions to make Chicken Cafreal:
- Clean the chicken pieces. Make slits on the chicken
- Apply salt, turmeric powder and lemon juice and rest it for 30 mins.
- In a mixer grinder add all the ingredients under masala paste. Don't add water instead use vinegar if more needed
- Apply half the masala paste to the chicken and marinate for minimum 4-6hrs and keep aside half the paste.
- In a heavy thick bottomed pan. Add oil and butter. Add the marinated chicken pieces and on high flame let the chicken fry.
- Turn over and fry nicely on both the sides. Add the other half of the masala paste let it get cooked.
- Add water and let the chicken cook on medium flame.
- Serve the chicken with potato wedges and salad or french fries……
